Mormon temple killing in Utah

In Utah Police ended up shooting a man just outside a Mormon temple when he refused to let go of the shotgun he was carrying with him, walking towards a large group of people on Christmas Day.

The man in question has previously been in a confrontation with another man in the area and police say that the armed man began arguing with someone else on the temple property.

Witnesses say that when police arrived on the scene they ordered the man to drop his weapon immediately but he did not comply with their orders.

The man who was still carrying his gun began to run away from the police. When one of the policemen fired at him one time, he was instantly killed.

When officers searched the car of the dead man, they found a number of guns as well as a sword. Police describe the man as being middle-aged and white.

They stated that the situation forced them to act with lethal force because of the danger that the man posed to people in the immediate area as well as members of the police department.

The officer who shot the man is currently being investigated by internal affairs.
