Baby Einstein Refund:Baby Einstein Recall

Baby Einstein Refund:Baby Einstein Recall – Walt Disney Company has decided to refund “Baby Einstein” videos that did not turn babies into geniuses. This decision seems to be an acknowledgment of the inefficiency of these videos.Susan Linn, director of Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood who has been fighting for years had this to say about the refund:
“We see it as an acknowledgment by the leading baby video company that baby videos are not educational, and we hope other baby media companies will follow suit by offering refunds.”
Baby Einstein was founded in 1997 and was acquired by Disney in 2001,after its early success in the electronic media market for babies and toddlers.
That’s all we have for now on Baby Einstein Refund:Baby Einstein Recall.

Where & how to you recieve the refund?
I strongly disagree with Susan Linn. I found these videos amazing. My son started watching them when he was just months old. To make a long story short, my 3 year old son has been classified as exeptional. I believe the Baby Einstein videos did not gaurantee your child to be a genius. That would just be ridiculous. I feel the videos should remain on shelves and no refunds. I would even like to see more geared for pre-schoolers. It would also cause bad business for Disney. The refunding would cause theme park rates to increase and with the economy today, not too many families can afford to vacation at Disney theme parks. Please re-evaluate this with another opinion. I strongly feel it is a mistake!
Thank you for your time.
I TOO! strongly DISAGRee with Susan Linn! My daughter first watched Baby Mozart at just 6weeks and truely watched it. She was not as involved when it came to other videos. She watched and I got more BABY EINSTEIN videos. she continued to excel. She was above average in everything. She colored in the lines at 2,She said her pledge allegence to a T,she knew colors in English and Spanish, and her numbers also.and a any one of my friends was witness too it. We were amazed. So my friends bought it for there kids..and not so much soo.. maybe it is the personality and child that makes a difference how can you knock something that is just a tool for teaching. SO maybe your kid likes flash cards or is a more left brain individual. HOw can you knock it just because it didn’t work for you?? My husband and i have reproduced once again. A Boy,yay he too loves and is a Fan of baby Einstein products. We registered and recieved at our babyshower the gift box full of toys and goodies..those are his fave. They make no other toys as good a quality,as BABy einstein!! So i am keeping mine and hopefully able to buy more as the years go on! A HAPPY CONSUMER OF THE BABY EINSTEIN PRODUCTS!!!!
This line of marketing did cause many people to believe that their child would be smarter if used. I am a pediatrician and I saw this first hand. I had to educate parents, one by one, as I do now about Your Baby Can Read… all TV/ internet phenomena that have created beliefs that are not true. No child should watch any TV before 2, if at all possible.
These videos are wonderful tools. Any one who thinks their baby is going to be a genius is an idot. My son is five and already reading at a 2nd grade level. These movies are only one of the tools to teach kids. Parents who care know that it takes hands on parenting. A video is not a subsitute, just a tool, like books and playing. Don’t take away a tool like these beautiful videos. I used to love watching them with my son. People need to accept things for what they are. They are not hurting anyone.
You don’t need a refund. The video’s are a wonderful tool to teach and spend time with your baby. Just don’t rely on them to teach your baby alone.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the problem centres around parents who plonk their kids in front of the telly, with little other stimulation, thinking that Baby Einstein is all that’s needed. I personally can’t see how the videos cannot be educational and stimulating, but everything in moderation obviously, and they have to be age appropriate. I intend to keep using my set together with all the other fun activities we do like hands on play.
I have heard nothing but positive things from very dedicated and responsible parents about Baby Einstein. I used these with my son as an infant, and my Elementary School level brothers and sisters still watch some of the advanced Einstein DVD’s. There is no argument that these DVD’s stimulate a child’s mind. My infant loved them; however, I kept him on a routine. We visited family, took walks outdoors often to “explore”, had playtime, he watched me do everything. Of course as an infant everything is an adventure! I am pleased to say before nap/bedtime he would watch in awe at the toys on the screen. These videos helped me find my creative side, which was left back into my childhood. I interacted with him using these videos, even if I did not he was still entertained and curious. His mind was working. I am appalled that someone with such credentials is out to FORCE her opinion on parents and speak invalid accusations towards something positive.
Who do you contact for this refund????
I agree with Robin I have twins and they started watching the videos when they were just a few months old and at 5 years old they still want to watch them every now and then I beleave that they did learn something from these videos, numbers, colors and shapes and I wish they would make videos for older kids they are wonderful and I have recommeded these videos to my friends with newborns I had actually gifted the DVD once for a baby shower gift.
Really? You’ve got to be kidding me! People actually believe that, by watching some videos, their children will be come the next Albert or Steven or any other notable genius and now they want their money back? Wow. I am stunned by the level of idiocy that it took to render this decision by Disney. Simply amazing.
Absolute nonsense
I believe the recall is silly. You can not rely on a video to make you child a genius. My son also loves his videos and I will not be returning them for a refund. Anyone who just plops their children down and expects the tv to all the work is lazy and has a long road in front of them.
I know that you are a Dr. and I know babies should not watch TV but I feel it does not harm them and that TV is no subsitute to reading and playing with them they are 5 now and smarter then ever and when you have twins a little help from the TV is no big deal I have always puurchased educational shows and purchase educational toys for them.
karen
Just use common sense people. Most doctors always gear their advice as if they are speaking to their stupidest patients. They think if parents hear videos are O.K. that parents will sit their kids in front of the T.V. for 16 hours a day. So they say T.V. is never O.K.
My son watched Baby Einstein because he liked the videos, not because I was trying to make him a genius. He also likes to read, play outside, listen to music, and color. He is also way ahead of grade level in every subject.
Thank God I have a doctor who treats parents as individuals instead of just assuming I’m stupid. He knows all the things my son is involved with, and has told me on several occasions that limited T.V. and video watching, even at a very young age, are fine.
Education is a wonderful thing!!!!
Educated Parents and Educated Consumers –
There is NO Genius Video like there is no Weight Loss Miracle! If you need to get your money back for a video you purchased that you thought would make your baby smarter – shame on you.
I DID PURCHASE COUNTLESS Baby Einstein Videos. I do not expect to get my money back. I DID HOWEVER WATCH THE VIDEOS WITH my children and INTERACTED WITH MY CHILDREN WHILE THEY WATCHED. – and YES I am a working MOM!!
The point should be BETTER PARENTING THROUGH MEANINGFUL INTERACTIONS with your children – you should not expect a television to teach your children!!
I can say through effective parenting – My 5 year old Kindergartner is reading at a 2nd Grade Level and my 1 year old is speaking full sentences because of EFFECTIVE PARENTING – supplemented WITH BABY EINSTEIN VIDEOS!!
I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT BABY EINSTEIN!
What a load of crap. My twins are 2 and they still love Baby Einstein DVD’s. Their latest favorite is “I watch 1-2-3-4-5 movie” – the counting one. If I didn’t have Baby Einstein DVD’s I probably wouldn’t have showered their first year! Anyone who expects the TV, the schools, or anyone else but YOU to raise your kids has no one to blame but themselves.
Much of this is being driven by the American Association of Pediatrics who wrote a policy some years ago about television viewing. The policy reads, “(p)ediatricians should urge parents to avoid television viewing for children under the age of 2 years. Although certain television programs may be promoted to this age group, research on early brain development shows that babies and toddlers have a critical need for direct interactions with parents and other significant care givers (eg, child care providers) for healthy brain growth and the development of appropriate social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Therefore, exposing such young children to television programs should be discouraged” (American Association of Pediatrics, 1999).
I also DISAGREE BIG TIME!!! My son is 2 and a half and he’s been watching these videos from the day he came home from the hospital-No lie!!! At 2 yrs of age, he know his numbers up to 20, his colors, not just basic colors, and his shapes. Not all 2 yr olds can do that. U can’t just sit ur child in front of the TV and expect them to learn everything. U must be an active parent in ur child’s education. I know we’re in a recession but, WOW!!! Baby Einstein Rocks!!!!
I think that this refund is crazy!!! I love these movies and they are very educational and my son and nephew love them.
I believe that these dvds are great and should only be used as a tool… I have 2 boys who are on the autism spectrum and they love Baby Einstein. I have a hard time getting them to pay attention and one of the things they love to do is watch these videos. Any parent who believes their child can become a genius by watching a couple of dvd’s is crazy. If that were the case, we’d have geniuses running around everywhere. The point is to use them as a tool… in conjunction with imaginative play and social interaction and all of the other things that are necessary for a child’s mind to grow. No two children are the same, so let’s not forget that..
