Dharun Ravi And Molly Wei Friends SPEAK

Dharun Ravi And Molly Wei Friends SPEAK – Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are currently being held responsible for the suicide of a classmate, and the roommate of Ravi. The two allegedly broadcast the gay sexual encounter of Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, live on the Internet. Only a few days after the incident occurred, Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River.

However, friends of Ravi and Wei are beginning to come forward, saying that the two students are being judged too quickly, as well as too harshly. The numerous reports of the suicide of Clementi have outlined the actions of Ravi and Wei, and have placed the majority of the blame upon their shoulders. However, certain friends and peers of the two are beginning to step forward and say that they simply made a poor decision, but that they are good and decent people.

The defense of these two has begun to spur hot debate throughout the nation, and especially at the Rutgers campus. One student made a statement in the school newspaper, that anyone who was in support of the two were “an embarrassment to our University.”

    1. Lin McKay says:

For two supposedly intelligent young people, Ravi and Wei, were missing an education in morals, ethics, trust, responsibility, respect of others and common sense. There are consequences when you put your own search for sick humor before that of the well-being of another human being. Shame on the Ravi family and the Wei family for missing such an important part of a child’s education. Let’s hope Ravi’s brother, Jay, is getting a better education. He may be the one to bring honor to the family name. It is too late for Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei. Selfish and thoughtless young adults. Rutgers is well rid of them before they do more damage to the school’s reputation.

      • Jeff says:

You seem a bit obsessed with “honor” and their “family name”. It seems their races and the stereotypes that are associated with them (i.e. asians put great emphasis on family) is misplaced… if a white person commited a shameful crime such as paedophilia, would you say “shame on the McKay family”? No, it would just be the individual.

As more non-whites across the world are being “westernised”, you’ll find that honor and family shame means nothing, much like in the West.

        • eyeonyou says:

Actually Jeff YOU are the poster ranting about race and ethnicity.

          • Timotito says:

We can’t ignore race and ethnicity. It is just as much a part of who we are as is our sexual identity. And Jeff makes a valid point in realizing that family identity plays a big role in how people are viewed and treated within their respective communities.

    2. Josh L. says:

The two’s characters are irrelevant. What should be examined are their actions, and consequences of these actions. Being nice kids has nothing to do with how they should be punished.

      • Timotito says:

I agree. Even nice people can do stupid things. BUT a person’s character plays a huge role in how a person is sentenced by a judge & jury. And first-time offenders typically get off rather lightly than repeaters. So we have much to learn about these two students and what their futures will be.

If they are as good-natured as people want us to believe (and maybe they are), I’m hoping that they will each also have a real conscience and much regret for what they did.

    3. maura sullivan says:

Ravi and Wei exhibited depraved indifference with their actions. I feel for their shocked and defensive friends. Clearly they were fooled, too. This is no “college prank gone awry”. This was over-the-top cruelty. Prison or no prison, their lives are over.

    4. steve says:

Why are they sending out all of their little friends to try and convince the world of their innocence? Seems to me that they would and should speak for themselves.

      • P says:

Steve, if they do that themselves they pretty much lose any (albiet wonky) leg to stand on. Them speaking about it would amount to confession. You won’t get any word from them until after the legal process has run its course.

    5. bob says:

the deed perpetrated upon clementi was designed to torment. ravi/wei are tormentors. that they cannot see this evil throws into question the character of rutgers’ student body. those who would call evil good are doing evil. wei/ravi should be charged under wiretap and conspiracy laws. they should already be removed from rutgers. a young man also a rutgers classmate is dead. you who defend wei/ravi, why do you not stand up and denounce mr clementi while you are on the soapbox. i’d say rutgers is supporting a grooming a rather callous group of young people to enter society. perhaps change mascot to scarlett shrew! let your heart bleed for mr clementi, not the tormentors.

    6. Sal says:

I find it very curious that a “heterosexual” young man would spend 3 hours watching two homosexual men having an intimate encounter …hmmm. And he enjoyed it enough to want to do it at second time!

    7. lock these sickos up says:

“good and decent people” do not film others having sex without their consent then stream it live on the internet

sick, perverted, disgusting subhumans do that. oh, but they’re kids so they “made a mistake”. bs, when i was an 18 year freshman (3 years ago) i knew better than that.

both the da and rutgers should think very hard and long about their course of actions here. the wrong (aka: too lenient) response will only add fuel to the fire

    8. Toodles says:

Their character went out the window the night they decided to broadcast an innocents personal life online for hundreds of other bullies to participate.

    9. Ms. Boob says:

I’m hoping that the alleged offenders are enjoying the internet exposure they’re now receiving as much as they enjoyed exposing Tyler Clementi’s personal life on the internet.

It’s a sorry state when this is how we decided to care for one another. Who raised these two?

    10. Erica says:

Why hasn’t Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei been expelled from Rutgers University? If those two bozos were “good and decent people”, they wouldn’t have spied on Tyler and recorded and posted his intimate moment with another man without his consent? Good and decent people would know that invasion of privacy and public humiliation is wrong.

    11. BoZ says:

I am all for punishing the two responsible parties to the full extent of the law. They should receive the consequences of their actions, of that I have no doubt. But I am really amazed by how quickly people are trying to completely deny the existence of any decency on these two kids. REALLY? Do people think that these two grew up as horrible human beings and no one ever took notice? And somehow they still managed to have loyal friends? Or perhaps their friends are all pure assholes too? It’s super easy to put the Evil label on people and move on, but we all know where that lead us.

    12. Pete says:

How strange, this definition of good and decent. They have been charged with a crime for a reason. It seems Tyler could not understand the good and decent people, backed by their good and decent Twitter followers, who chose to spy and exploit him. DId not one of Ravi’s friends say “Dude, Uncool”? Where are those people?

    13. Matt says:

At 18 years old their educations have been destroyed and their reputations irretrievably broken. If they want to have a normal life of any sort, when they get out of prison they should legally change their names and emigrate.

It’s a hideous tragedy. But there is no way out for them.

    14. hi says:

good and decent people would never do such a thing. i dont care how smart or bright their futures may have been..they ruined someone else’s future on purpose..they are AWFUL people

    15. Phil says:

It’s unheard of that Dharun/Wei OR their parents have yet to make some comment. Dharun’s bail was almost nothing for an affluent family ($25,000), and Wei’s bail was nothing (her own recognizance). I hope I’m wrong, but it’s beginning to look like the two of them have left the country.

    16. Uncle Willy says:

This is a case of bullying and nothing more. We do not want these type of bullies in America. These two bullies are wearing a ‘mask of decency’, in fact these two are hardcore bullies. Dharun should be sent to a third country as soon as he completes his prison term and his citizenship should be revoked.

    17. dave says:

If Dharun and Molly are old enough to not like their own sexual life and encounters exposed to the world, whether straight or gay, they are old enough to know it applies to others as well. Their friends rationalizing their behaviors are probably not very different from them when it comes to moral values or respect for others. Plain arrogance and sense of entitlement. The question is would Clemeti have comitted suicide if not for that Webcast.

    18. mifentw says:

I think rules of game should be sample as this, if this happen to my family I will take them out, live for live.

    19. LilMissSunshine says:

How are they being judged to quickly? We know the facts: Tyler asked for the room until 12, Ravi was a pervert and set up his web cam, wei and ravi watched tyler with another man and then posted a live video online. Are these facts incorrect? No, therefore we are not judging to quickly. I don’t think they meant for tyler to kill himself, but they should have known that what they were doing would be hurtful to tyler. They lack compassion and common sense. I hope Rutgers kicks them out and they lose whatever financial aid/scholarships they have. I doubt they are going to do jail time, but I feel good in knowing that this story has been broadcast worldwide and these two are going to have a hard time finding a school that will accept them and/or a job that will be willing to hire them…

    20. Sandy Lally says:

My heart is broken for Tyler Clementi…for his family….and friends…I am absolutely disgusted with what Ravi and Wei did to that poor kid….To be the cause of someone feeling so desperate, alone and unable to ever put the pieces back to his life….to cause that person to take his own life is worse than killing someone in cold blood….I hope that Ravi and Wei get the maximum penalty for the crime against humanity that they committed….I hope they live with this for the rest of their lives…every minute of everyday for the rest of their sorry lives….They are poor excuses for human beings and should be so ashamed for what they did…They world would be much better off without people like them ….and more people, kind and gentle people like Tyler Clementi. Tyler, I hope you have found the peace that you so well deserve…

    21. bill says:

I would say anybody defending them is an embarassment to decent moral ethical human beings anywhere. Can we deport them and their supporters to their pathetic countries of origin. They and their friends and family lack a sensitivity chip the rest of us Americans have.

      • Sarah says:

Wow – where did your ancestors come from? Perhaps we should deport you back to wherever that was. Punish their crimes. Just because their names are not Bill Thompson or Sue Jenkins, you are calling for deportation? What is wrong with you?

        • Gareth says:

He is NOT saying that just because of race. bill means that anyone who does something like that should be deported, regardless of gender, wealth, ethnicity, etc
(and i am from a minority population also..)

          • Michael Louie says:

How can you be deported if you are an American? Born and raised?

          • Michael Louie says:

Gareth, how can you read his comment and say it is not racist? “Pathetic countries of origin???!!!” “The rest of us Americans??!!!” If these kids were white and American, Bill would not have suggested deportation.

    22. Lee says:

Reminds me of small rural communities particularly in the south. If a well liked person commits a crime, the “friends” rally with, “Awe, he’s a good ole boa.” Nothing new.

    23. Sunny says:

Its just a prank which became serious.
      No one did this intentionally

      • Salome says:

Really?? No one did this intentionally? Did the webcam accidentally turn itself on? Did it accidentally get streamed online? Did Ravi think Tyler would be amused? Are you honesty trying to say that Ravi had no intention to devastate and cruelly humiliate his victim? If you think this is “just a prank” then you are as dangerous and morally bankrupt as Tyler’s tormentors. Shame on you.

        • Michael Louie says:

No, the resulting suicide was not intentional. If a prank of a much lesser degree comment caused someone who was overly sensitive to commit suicide should that person be responsible? Sad to say, but these kids are going to be made an example of and get more than they deserve.

    24. Where is my privacy? says:

The mere fact that Ravi broadcasted Clementi’s intimate moments without his knowledge is a violation of New Jersey privacy law. He should be penalized for this violation alone. Other charges should be filed against him. He should face all the consequences of his actions. What was the motivation of Ravi in broadcasting the sexual encounter? If he realized before hand that this can destroy Clementi’s life he should have not done it. If he realized that he was violating a law then he should have not done it. This should serve as an example to young people to think first on the consequences of their actions including bullying etc. before they do it. One wrong decision will destroy their bright future. Should Ravi be imprisoned at least 5 years, he surely will be out of school – and that is one big impact in his life. Instead of earning his degree from a reputable school, he will be serving in jail. What a waste… if only Ravi has a good moral character then this incident could have not happened. Why would someone invade someone’s privacy? Parents play an important role in inculcating good moral and right conduct to their children. This should also serve as an example to parents to teach your kids the importance of respecting other people and thinking first ahead of what the consequences their actions can bring. Three lives have been destroyed because of this very bad action.

    25. Hate Nasty people says:

I hope you both kill yourselves cause you deserve it… You went after this kid for NO reason at all, maybe because you are so freaking ugly and disgusting and couldn’t get a spouse if your life depended on it. Do the WORLD a favor & kill yourselves..

    26. Chris says:

Bottom line…. They made a mistake…. and now the have to pay!

    27. Nicky says:

How can you possibly say that broadcasting someone’s sex life live on the internet is a ‘mistake’?

If I were a potential employer, I would think this such poor judgement, regardless of age, that I would wonder whether I could trust either of these (apparently intelligent) adults to make decisions on behalf of my business. Simple answer: I wouldn’t employ them. How could you possibly trust someone who would ever dream of doing that?

    28. Scott says:

Good and decent people do not film people having sex without their consent and then invited their friends to watch. Period.

    29. Thomas B says:

Accountability. Set a precedent. Punish these kids.

For example, if we’d Jail Nixon, there’d be no Iran-Contra. Jail the Iran-Contras, there’d be no Iraq scam. Prosecute Bush, there’d be no Obama, no bank bailout-TARP-$4 trillion ripoff of the taxpayer. Prosecute Obama and there will be no more BP oil spills.

Accountability is the issue that could unite Tea-Baggers and Michael Moore. It’s the only issue everyone has in common.

Unite the Tea-Baggers and Michael Moore and we can take back the country. Otherwise, it is divided we fail.

Prosecute politicians and Wall street bankers as if they are dealing crack in Compton or Newark, and we will begin to retrieve our country.

Take a small step. Hold these kids accountable.

    30. Chito says:

Wei and Ravi should be sentenced to life with no parol. Or they can be sent back to their country of origin or burn to hell. This is a good example of kids growing up from poor family backgrounds. Parents who forgot to teach their children to be an asset to society and not become a liablity. These is an example of who will lead the world in the future. FUTURE LEADERS?????????????????
      Hell no.

    31. Chito says:

Wei and Ravi are two kids with no future. Invasion of privacy is what they committed. We have to strip them naked and posted on YouTube.

    32. Chito says:

Watch out Latin King Goonies. You have more gays in your gang than anyone else.

    33. Chito says:

Latin King Gonnies are fond of TRANSVESTITIES AND CROSS DRESSERS I had some of them experience and do the same as gay men

    34. sKippy says:

I’m a bit perplexed by this article. Who is holding Ravi and Wei responsible Clementi’s suicide? No charges have been filed against them in connection with his death. They’ve been charged with invasion of privacy, and as a Rutgers alum, I agree with the student comment in the school newspaper, that anyone supporting Ravi & Wei’s actions is “an embarrassment to our University.” Last week, campus groups called for the pair to be expelled, as they violated written university policy regarding privacy. To date, the university has taken no action.

    35. tj says:

This is the problem with colleges putting all the emphasis on “diversity” rather than academics. Let’s see; Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei. We are bringing people into colleges simply because we want diversity. News Flash: Diversity is not the utopia that mindless liberal academia want to believe it is. Is anyone shocked that a kid of South Asian heritage might be homophobic? C’mon. But let’s make sure we get the Indians and Paks and Chinese and every other international student we can find so we can advertise that we have someone from every country. What’s one dead gay kid if we can get a kid from Uzbekistan?

    36. Tammy says:

Diversity is not possible with people who are raised in countries that are INCLUSIVE.

Americans (those who are 2 generation call themselves American) They don’t call hemselves indian or arab or greek or asian. But we continue to let in people from individual countries that stick to there own.
Go back home to MARRY THERE OWN BECAUSE AMERICAN WOMEN AND MEN ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM.

So believe it or not, People in America work hard and I guess this kid was doing a really good job and it just bothered the jealous roomates so much they had to belittle him.

I think we should really look at the parents of these two CRIMINALS AND THINK ABOUT DEPORTING THEM IF ITS POSSIBLE. If they are citizens and have younger children, child protective services needs to be called in, and they need to look at WHATN THE PARENTS ARE DOING TO RAISE SUCH HATEFUL KILLERS AND YES THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED ITS CALLED HARRASSMENT

I AM WILLING TO BET THERE PARENTS ONLY WANT THEM TO MARRY THERE OWN KIND. SO GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN IF YOU CAN NOT LIVE HERE IN DIVERSITY. WE WELCOME YOU UNTIL YOU BELITTLE US. AND IN THIS CASE YOU DROVE A PERSON TO KILL THEMSELVES AND I REALIZE IN OTHER COUNTRIES ITS OK TO PERSECUTE BUT NOT IN AMERICA. TIMES ARE CHANGING IN AMERICA AND DIVERSITY IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO EMPATHY FOR OTHERS.

THESE KIDS WERE LET INTO THE COLLEGE, THEY DECIDED TO HUMILIATE THIS KID AND THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IS A REFLECTION ON THE TERRIBLE PARENTS THEY HAVE

WHO CARES ABOUT FAMILY NAME ITS BIGGOTED PARENTS

    37. Dan Walker says:

I as an Asian feel absolutely disgusted with Ravi and Wei. Unacceptable, Tyler Clementi deserved better. These disgraces to life and humanity itself. Shame on them. May they live with this forever
