Henry Louis Gates Arrested – Henry Louis Gates Jr. who is the director of Harvard’s W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research was arrested while he was trying to force his way through his own front door that was jammed.Despite showing the officer his identification along with a Harvard University ID card,Gates was booked at the Cambridge, Mass., Police Dept., on July 16, 2009. Gates’colleagues believe the arrest was a clear case of racial profiling.Gates said:
“Why, because I’m a black man in America?”
Gates’ arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 26 and Rev. Al Sharpton will be there.

Regardless of the “black males” eye-witness call into police, had two real burglars infiltrated Gates home and the police just simply let the culprits go because they were inside the house claiming to be the owner and shouting the race card, Gates himself would have been upset that the police did not do their job properly. I thought Harvard professors were intelligent?

As I understand the circumstance, the police responded to a report of a break-in in progress. Upon arrival, they find a man who initially failed to identify himself. Bad move #1. Once he identified himself, the professor should have understood the officer’s concerns. Instead he escalates the situation and accuses the office of being racist. Bad move #2. When he exited his home to continue the verbal altercation with police he was warned that continuance would be ground for arrest. He continued altercation with the officer (bad move #3) and was arested for disturbing the peace and interference with an officer in the perfomance of his duty.
I believe Prof. Gates is partly to blame for this incident. While I’m certain the officer could have handled the incident better, it looks like Prof Gates has some issues of race himself. Not every one is out to put down balcks. Any race that thinks a confrontation with the authorities is a way to make a point should expect some trouble – espcially when they’re not 100% right themselves! Recommendation: no matter who you are, no matter what your race, sex or creed, you can’t expect to get stand in public and interfere with the police. It’s similar to determining who has the right of way at a four-way stop. While you may have the right of way, it doesn’t make sense to pull out in front of the truck that just ran the stop sign. You might be right but it might also get you injured.
Doesnt matter what he said to the cops, as soon as he produced id they should have left his property immediatley.
I hope he sues.
They have dropped the charges? Why was he charged in the first place? For creating a disturbance? Yeah they had a talk with the lawyer for the police and found the charges wouldnt fly.
Does anyone believe the police would have arrested a white guy in the same incident? It wouldnt have gone past ”sorry to disturb you sir”

Question: Why didn’t the neighbor who called the police recognize her neighbor? Perhaps she too owes Mr. Gates an apology. Not to mention, it would seem, new glasses.
I am not certain why/how Mr. Gates was not recognized as the rightful owner of his own home but as a white woman in America, I bet if it had been me at my own door the cops would have taken a moment to let me identify myself before slapping the cuffs on me. I firmly believe that.
This Negro should have used the brains that he’s suppose to have being a Cambridge professor. He copped an attitude because he was questioned by police doing their job. He was pissed off because he couldn’t get in his own house. White or black someone breaking into a house needs to be questioned when the police see it happening. What a Moron pulling the Race card. I thought only stupid Negroes did that.
Where was Dr. Gates’ wife who happens to be a ww? Maybe, she locked Dr. Gates out of his own home?
