Is the Post Office Open Today July 5 2010? – The 4th of July is a favorite holiday among many Americans. No other holiday gives so many people an excuse to celebrate as loudly as we do on the fourth. It is a time to see family and friends for cookouts and barbecues. It also means that a number of different government locations will be closed throughout the day.
Government offices in New York are closed throughout the holiday. Post offices in the state will only deliver express mail. Self-service kiosks are available in the main post office buildings, located on Eighth Avenue and 32nd street. Regular post office service will be suspended throughout the 4th of July.
Banks are also known to close throughout the US, but that is a decision that is made on a bank-by-bank basis. A number of states have no mail delivery throughout the day. Most subways, buses and other forms of public transportation will continue to operate throughout the holiday.

New Jersey still delivers express mail throughout the Independence Day weekend, but no other forms of mail are delivered. Many local businesses see a slow-down in business during the 4th, and opt to close instead of keeping their doors open throughout the day. Many businesses elect to run on a Sunday, “early close” schedule during Independence Day.
In New York, both the stock and bond markets close in observance of the Holiday.
