JMU Riot Video:Springfest 2010 James Madison University Block Party – Riots can get out of control in an instant and when police need to crack down, they’re not going to take your actions lightly. It seems that close to 30 people were just arrested when a party which took place near James Madison University quickly turned into a full fledged riot. Over 8,000 people came outside near James Madison University and Saturday’s streets near the college turned into a hectic scene. The JMU riot caused the pursuit of officers and it seems in just a matter of a short few minutes over several dozen different partiers who took their good time to another level with the riot were soon arrested.
Police are reporting that the rioters got extremely carried away and threw bottles and trash at the police offers. They were led to use pepper spray and tear gas in order to subdue the rioting college students. About 30 people were arrested and many more were injured mainly by the amount of broken glass that was being thrown throughout the whole afternoon as well as the evening. Not to mention the excessive amount of bon-fires that were started during the event, the majority of them taking place in garbage cans.
If you’re wondering what might have started this full-scale riot, well the Harrisonburg police are saying that the JMU riot may not have even been started by the James Madison college students and that it’s believed that it’s more likely that the riot was started from people that are not natives to the town. The JMU students as well as out of town partier’s all gathered for Springfest which is a big 3 day party that is housed in an off campus area. It usually has around 4,000 people that attend but this year the numbers were close to double that amount. The party was promoted Facebook which may have led to the huge numbers.
