It has been a universal sign among christians in the world to draw the sign of the cross in dirt, sand, anything that will show that they are believers to other believers in situations where being a christian in the open is not advised. The sign is shown then erased so that you would not be caught by the nonbelievers, even I have done this. This is not plagerism but just communication. This has been going on from Jesus’s time in all countries and situations…like I said..even I have done it.

Actually, the universally recognized sign that was drawn in the Early Christian times was a FISH, not a cross. Its possible that in modern times it became a cross…but in the times of Peter and Paul, tradition holds it was a fish, because Peter and many of the apostles were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “you will be fishers of men.”
