Johns Hopkins Shooting – Baltimore Hospital Shooting – A man who became upset when he was told about his mother’s worsening condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital pulled out a gun and shot the doctor who was breaking the bad news to him. He then went into his mother’s hospital room, killed her and then shot himself.

The doctor was shot in the abdomen and is expected to survive his wounds. The gunman was identified as 50 year old Paul Warren Pardas. He obviously had some deep seeded issues that came to the surface when he learned that there was a chance that his mother may not survive. He became overwhelmed, and instinctively reacted to the news.

The weapon that was used was a semiautomatic gun that he had pulled form his waistband. It is not clear if he had planned to shoot himself and his mother from the time her entered the hospital, but it is strange that he would be carrying a gun on him.
He was in the room for more than two hours and led authorities to lock down a small section of the building while they tried to convince him to leave the room without doing anything drastic. After backing off, police made their way to the room to find that he had already shot his mother and himself to death. He was on the floor, and his mother was lying in her hospital bed. It was not immediately clear what the woman was being treated for at the world renowned institution that set the man off.
