Karim Rashid Sultan Khan:Colin Powell Meet The Press

Karim Rashid Sultan Khan:Colin Powell Meet The Press – Karim Rashid Sultan Khan who was a 20 year old Muslim American soldier born in New Jersey who was killed while fighting in the Iraq war was mentioned by Colin Powell on NBC’s “Meet the Press” earlier today. Here are Colin Powell’s exact words.

I feel strongly about this particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery, and she had her head on the headstone of her son’s grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards — Purple Heart, Bronze Star — showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old.
And then, at the very top of the headstone, it didn’t have a Christian cross; it didn’t have the Star of David; it had crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he can go serve his country, and he gave his life.
Now, we have got to stop polarizing ourselves in this way. And John McCain is as nondiscriminatory as anyone I know. But I’m troubled about the fact that, within the party, we have these kinds of expressions.

This picture of Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan’s mother Elsheba Khan, was taken by Platon for the New Yorker.

That’s all we have for now on Karim Rashid Sultan Khan:Colin Powell Meet The Press.

Please add some credits for the photo. I’m curious when/where it was published and who took it.

I’m so glad someone finally said it. Muslims are pretty much advertised by the Republican party as black jewish communist gay nazis. (I know it doesn’t make sense, but neither does the racist Republican party). The media has been the second biggest criminal in all of this by supporting this rhetoric and using terms like, “Islamic Terrorist” or “Muslim Terrorist”. These groups have names like Taliban or Al Qaida, but its like calling the Nazi’s Christian Terrorists. It would be like replacing the word Christianity with Nazi. When looking at the whole of Christianity, the Nazi’s were a very small number as is Al Qaida and Taliban for Muslims. For those that don’t know Islam has 1.3 Billion people and with that kind of number there are going to be some bad apples. Even though we were at war with Nazis, we never associated our faith with them. The new Republican Party is filled with criminals, murderers, people who endorse torture, steal, and do not look out for the average man. The aspect that is the scariest about the Republican party is that instead of uniting the country, they divide our country. Just like they did it with us and the American Muslims. Now you hear small town versus big town division. Certain people are more american, and that fear can lead to someone doing something crazy. When things of threatening nature are said to Obama at Republican rallys, this should raise some red flags that if God forbid a racist follower of the republican party were to harm Obama, then our country could potentially break out into mini civil war like countries overseas that have spread a hateful rhetoric to divide a country. This is not the same Republican party I supported during Regan and Bush Sr.

The fallen soldiers name is different on the headstone than in the headline article (Rashad/Rashid).

I am proud to be an American as much as I am proud to be a Muslim. This is exactly the statement that Collin Powell underscored. This is not only a brave and noble action but also the right one. This is precisely the America I had admired before I chose to embraced this beautiful nation as my eternal home. Collin Powell is another figure that has been added to my top list of the Best People of All Time.

I can say a lot, but I will say this much and that is that I am a Muslim, I am an American, I am proud to be an American, I plan to be integral part of the American political process and social mainstream and every Muslim American should feel the same. Muslim Americans are no less than anyone else and are entitled to have as may rights as anybody else.

I was born in this country, my parents were born in this country, I am an American Muslim. Thank you Gen. Colin Powell for saying what has been in all of the hearts of Muslim Americans. Your comments will go down in the history books as one of the bravest, classiest acts in politics. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

What a brave man. Gen. Coling Powell! I have to say I would’ve never thought that he would be the one who would finally go on media and say the truth. even senator Obama himself didn’t have the guts to say what Gen. Powell had said. we are all christians, jews, and musilms live in one nation under god. lets go back and read our constitution.
