* State offices closed.
* Courts, schools and libraries closed, except Stafford Co.’s library.
* Holiday parking regulations in effect in Arlington and Alexandria. Holiday regulations Tuesday in Alexandria.
* Regular trash pickup, except in Fairfax and Alexandria. Regular collections Tuesday, except in Arlington and Fairfax.

Maryland

* State offices, courts and libraries closed, except Anne Arundel Co.’s library.

9 a.m MLK BREAKFAST. – United Negro College Fund Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast.

Various times – “KING: A FILMED RECORD MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS” – A free showing of a documentary about Martin Luther King Jr. Tickets for the 9:45 a.m. showing will be distributed at 9 a.m. Tickets for the 1:30 p.m. show will be distributed at noon.
Location: AFI Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, Md.

11:30 a.m. KING DAY MEMORIAL RALLY – Rev. Al Sharpton to commemorate King holiday with Martin Luther King III, Wyclef Jean, Sen. John McCain, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty at a King Day Memorial Rally.
Location: Cardozo High School, 1300 Clifton St. NW, Washington D.C. 20009

12 p.m. – 2 p.m. MLK PARADE – Martin Luther King Jr. parade planned with floats, marching bands, equestrian units, church choirs and Mayor Sheila Dixon. Gov. Martin O’Malley, D-Md., to attend.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. MILITARY APPRECIATION – Serve DC and Operation Gratitude are among sponsors of “A Day of Service for Our Military,” focusing on a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther king through volunteer service projects across the nation.
Location: RFK Stadium.

2 p.m. – MARTIN LUTHER KING PROGRAM – Local poet, performer and educator Bomani Armah leads an energized celebration along with young people as they create their own messages to the new president. The young and talented violinist Daniel Davis will perform, as will the Urban Nation Hip Hop Choir and others. The event is free and open to the public.

4 p.m. – LET FREEDOM RING – The Kennedy Center and Georgetown University host a musical celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy in a free Millennium Stage concert featuring Aretha Franklin, Nuttin’ but Stringz, and the Let Freedom Ring Choir. Tickets for the 6 p.m. event are required. They’ll be distributed in front of the Concert Hall beginning at 4 p.m.

7:30 p.m. – WREATH LAYING – Wreath laying ceremony hosted by Legislative Black Caucus to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, D-Md., will attend.
