Nadja Benaissa HIV Trial: German No Angels Singer Admits To Knowingly Infecting Man With HIV

Nadja Benaissa HIV Trial: German No Angels Singer Admits To Knowingly Infecting Man With HIV – The band No Angels seemed like your every day pop sensation, until one of the members showed how angelic she really wasn’t. Nadja Benaissa has admitted in court to knowingly having unprotected sex with HIV, and infecting her partner.
The 28-year-old was facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm, after having unprotected sex during a 2004 relationship, with an unnamed partner who says he had no idea the singer was HIV positive.
It was not until 2007, after learning of Benaissa’s condition through her aunt, that he learned he had contracted the devastating disease.
According to Benaissa in court today, she was addicted to crack cocaine at the age of 14, which is when she contracted the disease. She was 16 when she found out, after becoming pregnant. She hid her condition after winning Popstars and joining No Angels in 2004.
The case, which began a year ago when she was arrested on the way to a concert with her fellow band members, has caused a great deal of criticism from AIDS advocacy groups, first for the 10 day minimum she spent in jail, and now for the fact that her admission is sure to lead to a mild sentence.
Benaissa will be given her verdict on August 26th, where she is facing a possible prison sentence.
It is not immediately clear if she may have infected anyone else, or if she was having sex with other partners without adequate protection. The idea that she was active without thought to protection with one makes it possible that a future case from another man could be coming.
