Oaxaca Mexico Landslide – A landslide in Oaxaca has buried hundreds of people. The slide was caused by the large amount of rain that has been brought to the area by recent hurricanes. The huge landslide buried more than 300 homes in the region on Tuesday morning. Now, hundreds of people are missing, and thousands of people are homeless.

Nearly the entire town of Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec was buried in the landslide. The major, Palemon Vargas Hernandez told a local radio program that 80% of the town was affected by the land slide. Survivors are sticking together in an effort to rebuild the city that has succumb to the land slide.

Rescue workers are on hand, but have been unable to reach the people that have been buried by the storm so far. It will be interesting to see how many people that are able to get out of the slide alive, if any at all. There has been a lot of rain, and the overflowing of local rivers has added to the problems.

Among landslides, flash floods have also been a constant threat in many of the areas. Hopefully the rescue workers will be able to locate some survivors and get them to safety. The town now will begin a painful rebuilding process with nearly 80% of the town destroyed or damaged.
