Obama Fishing Ban:To Ban Sport Fishing? – Obama fishing ban hoax is spreading like wild fire on the internet.Earlier today few media outlets including ESPN decided to report a false story that claimed Obama was planing to ban fishing as a sport. The truth of the matter is that the administration has decided to back a worldwide ban on fishing or trade in Bluefin Tuna in hope to preserve the stocks that remain. The New York Times has more on the story:

“There is no doubt that the species is in desperate trouble. Stocks of Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin declined by more than 70 percent between 1957 and 2007, and by more than 60 percent in the last decade alone. Stocks in the Western Atlantic, including the United States, have stabilized but at a very low level. The decline has been driven by a growing global appetite for tuna, and by the rapid mechanization of industrial fishing, chiefly purse-seining operations that allow for the capture of entire schools of tuna at once.”

To the 60,000,000 Americans who enjoy fishing, rest assure no one will be banning your favorite activity.ESPN has yet to refute the lie they published.

PUT YOUR ROD IN THE AIR AND STEP AWAY FROM THE STREAM!!!
Ok… this fabricated nonsense definately tops my list of LOL funny spins to smear Obama.

It’s ALL over the right-wing sites… pages and pages of “sources” on google OBAMA WANTS TO BAN FISHING!

How is it that some sexist bigot with a nasty temper can write something on ESPN and without even as much as googling it to fact check, sprews a bunch of baseless crap and it ends up on Fox nation? I bet it will be on Becks show tomorrow to make up for the total Massa Disasta he had today.
(make sure you check out Robert Montgomery aka Bobby Knight now, ya hear?)

So, the story took me 10 minutes to research. Here is the truth of the matter.

Back on June 12, 2009 Obama sent out a memorandum: see 1st link

Thus the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force was created.
They turned in their initial report: see 2nd link

and then with another report (not sure if this is the final one or not): Please note page 10 #2 see 3rd link

On December 14th, This was released: see 4th link

Notice the first paragraph where it talks about getting the publics input? Well, the 60 day period was up.

That’s it…. nothing more to see here! Do people REALLY believe he’d ban fishing?

At first, I thought this was started by someone with a Bait & Tackle shop that was failing, needed something to boost sales. Hey! It worked for the gun shops!

For those of you who SPREAD this nonsense…. Considering the story? Kiss my Bass! :)

Don’t be so sure, RicoShay. If he’s willing to set up death panels to decide who lives or dies, then it would be a small decision to ban fishing. He has already said he doesn’t mind if he isn’t elected.

  3. winoneforthegipper says:

Actually, this story is not a hoax.

Starting in May of 2010 many commercial fisheries along coastal waters will be severely limited. A cap and trade program goes into effect that allocates who and where life long family run businesses can fish, how long they can fish and for what they can fish for.

    This is called green zoning.

Along with this comes the impact to charter boats and headboats that rely on the casual to professional angler to utilize their crafts in search of game or table fish. They will be bounded by the same quotas and limitations.

What this has done in the mussel and oyster industry since it’s implementation is to consolidate those fishing credits towards the larger companies, thus driving out the small business owner, the mom and pops who have been fishing for generations.

Government loves this, for it’s easier to apply power to the fewer interests and yes it’s easier to get money from them when they need it. Another word’s corruption.

As for the general recreational fishing enthusiast, well, it does not take a phd to recognize that all areas of fish habitat are now in question. There is simply very little science being applied and when it is I can tell you it is not being done so without agenda.

The Green movement has permeated Washington and they could care less who in the middle class they offend.

Make no mistake this will immediately cost states billions of loss revenue dollars. This will immediately cost untold thousand of small business’ their products to sell and unfortunately it will cost thousands of middle class jobs.

So who ever thinks this is a hoax, you are totally not with the program.

  4. Roy says:

    Actually, this is true.

This is separate from the bluefish tuna ban.

Here is a thorough article on this issue from the Christian Science Monitor, not exactly a right-wing pub on most issues….

Folks, there appears to be some confusion. The bluefin tuna ban is SEPARATE from this issue. The two are not the same. This has to do with a new order of organizing and limiting the use of ocean and other waterways.

This is real. Now, we won’t really know much until the final report, but it is disconcerting.

  5. Gerry says:

I’m not sure what Hoax you are talking about? I was a proud Obama supporter but he has said that public fishing in local lakes and ponds can throw off the balance of the ecosystem and cause ponds to have too much algae. So his administrations believes that prohibiting fishing by all un authorized Americans would be a good idea and he recently closed public input to the issue.

It is no hoax my friends.

  6. FishinChix says:

This is NOT a hoax. The CCA, NICO, FGA have been fighting what the Obama Administration with thier antiquated fisheries data has been trying to do for months! I don’t think these organizations would be involved if it was a hoax!

  7. Dan says:

Gorilla fishing will be be much more interesting and fun! And no more shelling out for a license.
Ban fishing? give me a break!

  8. Randy says:

Do you ever stop and look around at everything that is going on in our Government and say “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills”. I have been fishing all my life, like my father before me and his father before him. Now I worry I may have to tell my children they may not be able to fish anymore. This is no hoax! If Obama wants to pass a ban on fishing, he will. Regardless of what the people want. Look at his health care plan and how he is trying to misuse reconciliation to shove that down our throats. When will people wake up?

  9. mad mako matt says:

I WILL KEEP MY GUNS MY FREEDOM AND MY MONEY AND MY FISHING POLES AND MY FAITH AND MY HEALTH CARE YOU LIBERAL COMMIES CAN KEEP THE CHANGE.

  10. Gelbstoff says:

It is a hoax. Funny to see the reactions of the crazy lot. I am getting my boat and gear ready for the season.

  11. Independent thinker says:

I have been following this slow strangle of a decline for some time (Extreme Unemployment/Foreclosures,Codex Alimentarus,GMO) and it appear the ban on fishing was a test to see the publics awareness and this is far from over. I hope im wrong but there is a pattern developing, like a tilted chess game. Case in point they try to arrest uninformed people for not showing ID, but BP a foreign corporation can continue to douch the gulf with 95,000barells daily 40 days straight and not one arrest/Investigation/charge of negligence and so much more. Wouldn’t you say something else is going on?
