    An Affair?

If true, I guess that makes her equivalent to Bill Clinton.

If false, like the New York Times story on the McCain affair. Shame on Media

The Times (and the Washington Post) both reported that McCain advisors were concerned about a relationship between McCain and a female lobbyist. Both cited more than one source. Neither said there was an affair.

It’s hacks like you that are part of the problem, spreading false information and then blaming the media for everything.

It’s the old GOP trick. If you don’t like the news, blame the people who work in news.

The National Enquirer is a tabloid rag - but its political stories are usually accurate - and they rarely lose a lawsuit.

i have seen a lot, probably mostly not true, however, this “thing” with palin just does not ring true - something is wrong, things like this need to be approached with diligent care, and fear !

Well said! McCain and the GOP really played up their outrage at the suggestion of an affair, thereby squashing the real story of McCain’s close ties to lobbyists and his willingness to serve his corporate masters.

The Republicans live by the sword and die by it. At least the good governor was doing it with someone of the opposite sex. Right there she shows that she is a Republican maverick.

  7. Chuckles | Sep 5, 2008 | Reply

Watch out. This could be like the Dan Rather incident…feed the press false documents and then expose it as false, thereby inoculating Palin from criticism for the real stuff, like Troopergate and Bridge to Nowhere and Road to Nowhere and Porkgate.

If she screwed some guy, that’s not our business. If she screwed Alaska and will screw the country, that is our business.

  8. Expat | Sep 5, 2008 | Reply

The Rethugs tried to impeach a sitting president by using an affair as a pretext. They thereby made their own sex lives fair game.

  9. Lawyer | Sep 5, 2008 | Reply

The National Enq doesn’t lose a suit because the laws are screwed up. Times v. Sullivan basically says that you can’t win a suit if the person is famous and you don’t publish it maliciously.

If maliciousness waas defined as purposely publishing something false to sell papers they would have been wiped out long ago.

  10. Tejas Geek | Sep 5, 2008 | Reply

Lawyer overstates the impact of Times v. Sullivan. In fact, “actual malice” in libel law doesn’t mean what it would in normal conversation (just like Texas judges have decided that “funds” don’t include checks, thereby letting Tom DeLay off the hook on money laundering charges).

“Actual malice” in libel is really defined as publishing material that is known to be false, or with reckless disregard to its truth or falseness.

So the Enquirer wins by having in hand some evidence that reasonably supports what they print and making sure that they don’t have significant contradictory evidence. With the celebrity tabloid stuff, they mostly get statements of idiots who will say anything. For the more serious articles, they mostly seem to get better evidence.

Just like the Edwards thing, only fools are gonna be convinced by an article in the Enquirer; this might well be a classic study in innuendo. But the Enquirer has found major stories in the past too.

How on earth could John McCain categorically deny that Sarah Palin had an affair?! Because she didn’t admit it to him?

  12. Anon | Sep 5, 2008 | Reply

The issue with the ‘actual malice’ clause is that the ‘Journalists’ are not required to attempt to confirm the veracity of any claim.

If anyone says anything about anyone, even anonymously, then that is enough to protect you in court.

Journalists are also not required to disclose confidential sources in these instances and are allowed to ‘protect’ them. Providing even the flimsiest of proof is not actually required. Just saying that it exists is enough.

The law is written in such a way that if any journalist was willing to make up a story, and then was taken to court over it, as long as he is willing to lie on the stand there is nothing anyone can do about it.

The laws are set up in a way to allow libel. To get caught for it, you would need to have someone complicit in the act out another member of the party for what they are.

The family values and Christian morals Princess Palin and McInsane display are just so touching. Let’s all cheat on our husbands and wives. It’s a never ending game of swapping out sex partners as they pretend to honor the marriage vows. They are disgusting and a bit creepy.

Seems the neocon wacked out fundies were all happy about Edwards being exposed by the National Enquirer but when it’s one of their own playing around while pretending to be married, well then it’s all the media’s fault.

    John McCain,

Had an affair when he was married? He even said so on the saddleback forum. He said it was his biggest morale failing.

    Check your facts.

We could have an adulter as president and an adulteress as vice president. AT THE SAME TIME!!That would be a record for immorality in our country if we allow that.

i believe its necessary to have accurate information before making a judgement on the palin affair. one must get at the truth of the matter.if she did then we have our answer that all that glitters isnt gold.besides do you actually think shes perfect i assure you no one is. im adevout democrat and i believe in obamas platform for change.it amazes me of the reasoning capabilties of some americans. icant believe that you vote for someone because they claim to have the character of a pit bull when we are suffering so badly as a nation in so many areas.i find the republican party is not being specific about he issues we have as a nation instead all i hear ia palins a maverick. what about the stuff that really matters like jobs repairing healthcare economy education repairing our relations with other nations gas prices and they stole obamas campaign slogan change. macain has yet to inform the american people of specifics on the issues that are affecting our nation. we can send aid to everybody in the world and we are here suffering. shouldnt we take of home first?

I sit here and laugh at some of these posts. wait see’s has been the best by far.

“what about the stuff that really matters like jobs repairing healthcare economy education repairing our relations with other nations gas prices and they stole obamas campaign slogan change”

Jobs. it’s called looking for one. People are too self-conscious when it comes to looking for one, so they sit and home instead and complain about the lack of those “prime” jobs. Most of those laid off were usually the unfortunate people who happened to work at an unstable/outsourcing company. That’s awful, and I feel bad for them. But if Johnny Stoner got laid off because he sucked at his job? Screw him, it was his fault for not turning the burger patties fast enough.

Healthcare. It works in Canada due to their level of taxes and federal funding (from your taxes).

Economy. Here’s an idea. Instead of buying things outside of your weekly, monthly or yearly budget(s) (not forseeing tragic events), put down your credit card(s) and live within your means. Yeah, you got a 52″ inch Plasma TV and can see all your favorite channels, but it set you back 3,000 that you didn’t have to begin with.

Education. Education is the trickiest of them all, but, in short bluntness, the public school systems need to be tougher on kids. A lot of instances where I’m located pass kids without proper marks because they do not want the kids as their problems anymore. If a kid got a 40 average his entire year and gets a D, that’s bullcrap, and it’s happening all over the nation.

World Relations. we haven’t solved it in 50+ years, we aren’t going to solve it in the next 4 or 8.

Gas Prices. Alternative resources need to be perfected and refined and TESTED in order to make an impact for the mass market. Hybrids are a step in the right direction for now, but new ideas need to hit the table.

Taking Care of Home. We can try to solve the problems of the ghettos but we need the ghettos help first. If we were to drop millions of dollars into the ghettos in order to increase education/educators and try to bring about change with the new generation, are they going to make the effort to come? We need to test it in one city (With a bad rapsheet) to see how the stimulus of the educators make an impact.

There’s some venom in some of this, I know, but it’s honesty. To be an honest America, we need to be honest Americans, no matter the cost.

    AMERICA PLEASE WAKE UP!!!

I am a registered Republican, at first I had decided to vote for John McCain, but later changed my mind. When it came to my knowledge that he abandoned what he originally stood for and over the years adopted the Bush hard line. It’s understood that he wanted to prove to the Republican base he was one of them and not the maverick they disliked, which proves his inefficiency to stand up to the Republican Party.

On separate occasions the McCain’s stated that they were not going to run a nasty campaign, which they contradicted by providing us with dishonest commercials, campaign speeches, and interviews. They denied to the press of having carried out such a campaign. They said whatever they stated regarding themselves and Barack Obama is a fact. Several times John McCain stated that if Barack Obama had done what he had suggested then he could have run a more civil campaign. This sounds like imposition to me. Doesn’t he realize that we can see through this excuse?

When people in general raised questions regarding John McCain’s age he assures them of having an experienced Vice Presidential candidate, in case something happens to him. Hence he decided the best person for this position would be Sarah Palin. This leaves the country in dismay as she has limited political experience.

However, she was introduced at the Republican convention as a maverick, a reformer, who did not take earmarks, nor support the bridge to nowhere, and who never indulges in wasteful spending. Besides she was declared as an expert on the economy, well versed in foreign affairs, and having more experience than Joe Biden and Barack Obama put together.

Recently in an interview on Sarah Palin, Charles Gibson (reporter for CBS) proved the claims about her to be false. She is a devout Christian, but she refuses to tell the truth, and when Charles Gibson asked her to revise her blatant lies she refused too. Isn’t this violating the laws of Christianity? Thus it seems she is willing to compromise her religious faith to be the next VP of the United States of America.

She has extreme beliefs and views on many subjects like the Iraq war (she thinks this war is God’s will), abortion (she does not believe in it even in circumstances of incest and rape and if she gets a chance she will overturn Roe V. Wade), views on hunting (she allows people to shoot animals from planes), taking protection way (wants to take polar bears off the endangered species list). Besides she attends a church that believes in getting rid of homosexuality through prayer and that Jews have been persecuted for their refusal to believe in Jesus. She is currently under investigation for a possible abuse of her power as Governor of Alaska. Lastly, she feels global warming is a natural phenomenon and there is no evidence that it is man-made.

As for my belief on the abortion issue I do not believe in abortion for myself as a choice, however, I do believe it should be a woman’s choice and not the federal or state government’s. God did give humans free will to make their own decisions and as a result we are responsible for all of them. God will be the final judge of all our sins and all sins are created equal in God’s eyes. So, does anybody feel Sarah Palin somehow forgot this?

After being disappointed in John McCain and how he has chosen to run his campaign; I decided to start watching the Democratic campaign speeches and realized Obama is at least talking about the issues like the economy, job loss, health care and education. McCain spends the majority of his time distorting Obama’s record and lying about his proposed ideas for this country. You would think McCain would spend his time talking about what he is going to do for this country. Well the most ironic thing McCain has done is now he is talking about being the change candidate. Does anybody think it’s strange that for the last 18 months or so McCain never mentioned being the change candidate? As I remembered, McCain was running a campaign for the last 18 months or so on experience.

On September the 15th the stock market fell more than 500 points, then Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy; job losses is still at a record high and gasoline prices are on a rise again. On this same day, McCain at a campaign rally made the following statement “he thinks the economy is fundamentally strong”. Does anybody really think McCain is in touch with what’s going on in this economy? Well, McCain shame on you.

With all the stories whirling about this woman, even if only half were true…..she should never be near the white house. And, take a peek at some European or Asian newspapers….most think that Ms. Palin is some type of joke….a cartoon. Yet many reports state that the Walmart moms may elect her….then they will wonder why they can no longer afford walmart…but Ms. Palin will have a new gun, a new tanning booth and several other fun items….and the real story was when she said, the Palin/McCain ticket. If elected, McCain needs to watch his back from this good Christian woman. And what was that story with her preacher chasing out witches…? Sad, very sad.
