Palin Per Diem:Sarah Palin Billed State Nights Spent At Home - Sarah Palin made Alaska taxpayers pay her for sleeping in her own house and for travel expenses for her and her entire family by charging a “per diem” allowance.Palin billed taxpayers for 312 nights that she spent in her very own house during her first 19 months of being governor and charging a “per diem” allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.Sarah has additionally charged the state for travel expenses to take her children on official out-of-town missions. And her husband, Todd, has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife.Palin, who earns $125,000 a year, claimed and received $16,951 as her allowance, which officials say was permitted because her official “duty station” is Juneau.Palin’s daughters and husband Todd have charged Alaska $43,490 to travel, even though most of the trips were between their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away.

The per diem expense is part of her compensation package from the state. This is the norm in Alaska. Alaskan officials have confirmed this is perfectly legal. From this article it looks like she rakes in about $190,000/year. Considering that she is the CEO of a state with an $11 billion budget and 25,000 employees, that is peanuts. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.
