Presidential Commission On BP Gulf Oil Spill With Bob Graham, William Reilly
Presidential Commission On BP Gulf Oil Spill With Bob Graham, William Reilly – President Barack Obama has named a number of individuals who will be investigating the recent oil spill that has dominated news headlines. Those individuals will be Democrat Bob graham, who was a former U.S. Senator, as well as Republican William Reilly, who used to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. They will be investigating BP both before, during, and after the leak caused millions of gallons of oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico. In his weekly address, Obama stated that he wanted them to consider the root causes of the accident. He also stated that the individuals who chose to head up the investigation will be looking for ways to “prevent a similar disaster from ever happening again.”
Five additional members will be named to the commission in the coming days and weeks. They will report in six months with recommendations on how to keep a similar disaster from happening again, as well as a full report on the actions that BP took during the spill.
“We can only pursue offshore oil drilling if we have assurances that a disaster like the BP oil spill will not happen again,” Obama said in his weekly address to the nation.
The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded last month. Current estimates put the leakage at about 5,000 barrels of oil per day leaking into the Gulf. BP has made numerous attempts to slow the leaking, and recently has been able to suck a large portion of the leaking oil out of the water.
Obama stated that the individuals responsible would be “held accountable” for the lack of attention the Deepwater Horizon rig was given before the oil spill occurred. In the weeks following the disaster it has become clear that more could have been done to keep the oil disaster from occurring.

In many cases valves are “fail close” for safety. Fail closed simply means that they are designed so that they need to be activated to remain open, or in the absence of a signal to an activator forcing them open they close. This is mandated in many situations for safety and fire prevention. It must be mandated on Blow Out Preventers for all offshore rigs. The industry will lobby to avoid this so we the people must be diligent in demanding it without loop holes. Please copy this and post it every where you can.
Do the math, it’s ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY at 70,000 barrels a day x $70 a barrel BP will make $766,500,000 a year. If BP stops the leak they would not be allowed to complete the two “relief” wells. Once their grouse negligence is brought out, they would never be allowed to drill that reservoir. So they keep it leaking because that reservoir will pay for the clean up. They are not about to loose $10,000,000,000 dollars over the life of the reservoir and pay the clean up cost, unless the Government makes them. The oil industry has paid off / convinced the government they are TO BIG TO FAIL / or even demand accountability from. BP keeps taking wks between actions but they started drilling two wells right away. Bp should have a second pipe lowered and ready on stand by, they should have tried the hole shot wks ago and the mud fill wks ago. If BP would have stopped the leak wks ago they never get the $10,000,000,000. If BP would come out $ 10,000,000,000 ahead by stopping the leak in 10 days they would have don it, but the clean up cost would have been about the same with no money from the “relief wells. IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY. Believe me BP DID THE MATH!
Mr Obama should look to the leaders in the offshore oil industries Diving community. I’m talking about Oceaneering International. They have Oilfield Work Class ROV’s capable of 10,000 ftsw penetrations. They also have Search and Rescue ROV’s capable of 25,000 ftsw penetrations. I use to work as a diver in the Gulf and know first hand how damaging this spill is , both economically and environmentally.I would think that this would be in the forfront of all govt. actions at this time short of National Security and of course our war efforts abroad( ex Army Ranger ).More can and should be done. Then Kick BP out of our Gulf. Let them ruin the North Sea , it’s closer to there home than ours. Thank you.
Big Oil and World Bankers are more powerful then the United States of America. Today, BP is in command and feeds the media what ever BS they want with no questions asked. The mass media, Congress and the President are in the bag. It wasn’t until May 18th that the first video of the wellhead and preventer were released! No one in the media even mentions that the standard riser is 18 inches in diameter and the shown salvage siphon tube is only ¾ inch! The new video reveals that the wellhead flow is accurate at 95,000 barrels of oil a day; not BPs 5,000 bpd. Yet, 5,000 bpd is the official BS story without qualification.
Gulp-up the BS that that the ¾ tube is delivering 5,000 barrels a day of oil and gas straight up a mile to a recovery ship! Never mind that the wellhead and preventer is the main source of the flow of oil and that BP has only been trying to salvage oil at the end of the fallen riser. BPs failed salvage operations over the last month, Big Bell and Top Hat, were salvage operations; not operations to stop the flow of oil at the wellhead. The mass news media is as complicit as the President and Congress and all take the American public for propagandized fools. This out of control oil well is an ecological and economic genocide of the American people and should be responded to as a terrorist attack.
