The only thing I have to say that’s a bit off, here is a victim of a terrible tragedy yet she’s sporting a tongue piercing and has a child at the age of 18 with a boyfriend she hasnt yet married. Somethings a little off….

Give me a break. The fact that she has a tongue piercing and has a child out of wedlock doesn’t mean she was wearing a sign around her neck a two years earlier asking to be a victim of the slave trade. What a shallow-minded person you are. Somebody PLEASE explain to me why we blame the victims in this day and age. Yeah, something is a little off….it’s the creeps that raped her and held her captive for 3 days and tried to take her across state lines to sell her for 300,000 in the sex slave trade. Oh yeah…and YOU are a little off too…as are the cops who advised the family to wait 3 days before searching for her! OUTRAGEOUS!

I live just 2 hours from Escambia County. It is so saddening to see that Human Trafficking is very real in the South. Just 2 hours north Birmingham AL (more than likely Natalie Hollaway is a victim) and 2 hours south Shauna. I will definitely create more awareness for the people around me and also find ways to be involved to stop Human Trafficking.
sidenote: I know the enslaved humans are victims. Yet, I would also like to add those “Johns” are also victims. The fact that they would commit such horrifying acts displays they are discontent in life.
A lot of people wonder what they would of done during the times of the Holocaust if they knew it was happening. Well, today its Human Trafficking and now you know.

you are a very brave woman shauna, i saw your story on dateline… I understand how terrible it is to be treated as a criminal by local police, who are supposed to be helping you..I know you want justice but those who wronged you will have to answer for it at some point in their lives..You may not get the retribution you deserve but this will pass someday…
It had to be awful to see one of your attackers at the beach.. I wouldnt have been able to compose myself..Youneed to have a new start in life and maybe get away from that situation for a while at least…

I feel deeply sorry for this young woman and when I watched this special on t.v. I was outraged at how these horrible people could get away with something like this. This just comes to show that our justice systen needs to have another look taken at it.
However, being a strong believer in karma, what these sorry excuses for human life have done to this girl will eventually come back to them. Maybe not today but it will come back to bite them in the ass. And I do pray that it does.
Also, just because a young girl wants to have a tongue ring doesnt mean that its innapproriate, it’s an expression, not a bad one either. Let the girl be, she’s been through enough

My son was murdered in the same area that Shauna went through this and I can’t get help. Please check our website Americaiswatching.org Joshua Whittier or Realcrimes.com. there is so much corruption in that area, shame on the people judging Shauna when they don’t have a clue how sick it is there. You are going through life and you NEVER think anything like this could happen to you. My hat goes off to this young lady for standing tall, these public entities will get theirs, it is just a matter of time.

To Shauna – You have done nothing wrong! I am so impressed with your ability to tell your story. I live close to you in Mobile and am HORRIFIED by what I have seen and read. If you need any help I would be happy to help in any way I can. Keep telling your story, don’t be ashamed, it is these very sick people that are to blame.
My Mom is working in New York with the U.N. dealing with human trafficking. It is true that people think that it is something like “pirates being seen off the coast of Africa and taking over a U.S. vessel…can you imagine?” Human trafficking is real, take a look at your local Wal-Mart board and tell me how coincidentally so many are teenage girls who have “run away from home.” I would also like a copy of your story to send to my mother in New York. Cannot believe some blame the victim. Look some of the ‘questions’ some people ask as they try to discredit the victim, are answered in the tv special. Some of the facts the people trying to blame the victim, claim change, are due to the reporters’ versions NOT the victim’s.
Also did any of you think that MAYBE there is some corruption and/or just too many instances of such things, as to why this hasn’t yet been prosecuted? Why on EARTH was Shauna denied a rape crisis counselor to sit with her during her rape kit exam? Why would the police insist on her mother leaving the room? Why?
An ugly answer may be either that they A. did not care or even B. POSSIBLY – were in on it too. In any case there is no reason to disbelieve this girl.
Also some of you show your ignorance of post rape trauma. Some of them do become wild kids after a rape, or become depressed, flunk out of school, etc. That is very common. ANd it does NOT mean they were lying!!

Wow that was some story you told. That really is a heart breaking thing to have happen. I love all of my children and if anybody did that to one of my kids i will kill them. you are very brave to be so open and i hope those who did this to you end up in maximum security prison where they will be the ones getting raped. I met Shauna on a Greyhound bus back in April and she is a genuine person and a real sweetheart. Its terrible what happened to her. PS: I was they guy who let you borrow my dvd player so the kids could watch BOLT.

Who cares if she has her tongue pierced? What in gods name does that have to do with anything? You may not like it and heck I don’t care for em either but it has NOTHING to do with the horrible things done to her. NOTHING.
Yeah it’s not a good thing to have a kid at a young age especially while in high school. BUT again it has NOTHING to do with what happened to her.
