Similac Formula Recall 2010 – Similac Recall Lot NUMBERS

Similac Formula Recall 2010 – Similac Recall Lot NUMBERS – Earlier today Abbott Laboratories announced that they were recalling 5 million cans of certain Similac-brand powdered infant formula with the lot numbers 87932T20, 88117T26, 78208T2,88136T20,91433t20,800-986-8850,800-545-5216,800-515-7677,800-986-8800,847-937-6100,(847) 935-8865,(847)935-3456,66128RB6,61251 RB6,61347RB,84314 RB,85454 T2,86580 T20,88137T20 and 90372T20.
The voluntary recall is taking place because the company believes that their product may contain beetles.
Abbott spokeswoman’s Melissa Brotz said in a statement that after small insects were discovered in the cans of milk that are produced at a manufacturing facility in Sturgis, Michigan it was decided to recall several products.
Brotz went on to say that the company has decided to stop all production in the building where the bugs were found and that they are the ones who contacted the Food and Drug Administration to initiate the recall of 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce, and 12.9-ounce cans of Similac powder that were sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean- please be aware that Abbott liquid formula is not at all part of the recall.
The FDA revealed that the beetles found in the cans can could cause discomfort, irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, causing the infant to lose appetite if they are ingested.
You can visit www.similac.com/recall10 or call Abbott’s consumer hotline, (800) 986-8850, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for more information about the recall that may touch your baby or the baby you take care of.

That’s why for those who have milk should always breastfeed. And stop being lazy. At least do it for your child’s health. If you call yourself a mother.
You see now what happened? And who knows what else we will hear in the future. There is nothing better then mother’s milk. So my msg. to all would be
“PLEASE BREAST FEED YOUR BABIES” i work 2-jobs and still pump my milk and store it in the frezzer for my child to grow up healthy.
There is nothing wrong with it. It’s natural. That’s why women have breasts, there are not made only for man.
Thank you!
Yes I’ve agreed with your opinion. But I have a question is some of those women had some sickness. Thus how can they feed their baby? Because they don’t want to transfer their sick to them too that is why they choose this way not as you said keep only for man.
Please be understand them too and we do not know this will happen.
I wish that company (Similac)will solve this matter ASAP.
Thank you
Well…humm i breast feed my baby, but he is 16 months old and i gave him similac 9-24 months and he got sick
Why would you feed formula to your child, if he is already 16 months old?? I would just give him the same food you eat.
This is for Destiny, some of us mothers try and try to breatfeed and can not. Maybe you should google it or something, I tried to give my child the breast milk for 5 days and he ended up in childrens because he could not take it. So before you run your mouth you should do research. Breast milk is not for everyone.THanks
I agree… I cannot produce milk and am unable to breastfeed my baby not all of us …especially bigger chested woman can produce milk and therefore my children would have starved without formula….
Not everyone can breastfeed so don’t pass judgement on other people.
If possible breat feeding for the first week is really good for the baby. This allows for the natural immunity pass from the mother to the baby. After 1 week any formula the MD suggest is just fine. Some baby’s need to try different formulas to find the one that best agrees their system. Mothers and fathers need to read alot about different facts before they pass judgement on other parents decisions.
wow, way to go so show class. Use a site that shows what consumers should avoid feeding their kids to run your self-righteous mouth and pat yourself on the back. Do you also go to diabetes websites and run your mouth about how everyone should stop eating sweets or else they wouldn’t have diabetes? Do you go to cancer websites and tell them they should have lived a healthier lifestyle? Jesus, you have some nerve. And please, tell every adopted child out there that they are less worthy because their adoptive moms couldn’t breastfeed them. Tell everyone on medications that you are totally unaware of, that they should breastfeed and pass on the medications to their kids through breastmilk. Tell every cancer patient who had breasts removed, that they should breastfeed. See, you are 100% ignorant of many reasons people cannot or do not breastfeed. GOOD FOR YOU, take a piece of blue construction paper and a pair of scissors and cut out a ribbon for yourself. Take a marker and write “!st place for best mom” on it and paste it to your lapel, and wear it all around town, you smug annoying woman.
oh shut up will you? just because they had a little minor accident doesn’t meant anything. there is nothing wrong with formula. it keeps them fuller a little longer. and so if you can’t breast feed like me then formula is the only option. and i like bottle feeding formula better then a baby sucking on my boobs. i think thats just sick….
I appreciate your opinion as well, and I breastfed, however my 2nd child didnt get enough to eat or she would have starved. Being low weight it was necessary for me to supplement. What would we do if they didnt make formula? My mother God rest her soul tryed to breast feed me as well and couldnt. Same reason so I disagree I think it is wonderful if you can and the best for your baby if it works if it doesnt then it is best not too. Thank GOD we live in a free country!
Seriously! I had a blood clot in my leg after delivery and had to go on blood thinners…. do you think I should breast feed while on them?? Seriously think before you open your mouth!
however you are right most women should breast feed if they can produce milk but what about those who cant produce milk we are just screwed by people who are suppose to help us keep our babies healthy
Samantha,
That’s why i said for those mothers who have milk should breast feed. Because we all know a lot of mothers that DO HAVE MILK and chose not to breastfeed because they don’t want to ruin their breasts. Or for whatever reasons…
If you chose to become a mother you don’t have to think that way, but you give your life for your children. You try to keep them as healthy as possible. I also have friends that say ohhh nooo, i’m not doing that. Too much work. I can’t wake up in the middle of the night, This way my husband can wake up too. Oh they hurt oh this oh that. Store your milk and let your husband just warm it up if you feel very very tired. It takes 5 minutes.
Yeah they hurt at first, when you try to breast feed in the beginning , Yes you might bleed or whatever, but you don’t give up. You will get better and so is your baby.I didn’t sleep for weeks from my swollen breasts, my left nipple was smaller then the other and i was still trying my best to make the baby latch on it…
And plus to think of it. Breast feeding it’s much faster then preparing formulas. As soon as the baby wants to drink you have the milk nice and ready. The right temperature and everything. No need to worry is too hot, is it too cold,or worry if you added to much water, is it too thin or too think?
This is my opinion. Breast feeding is #1 for me and for some out there.Even formulas tell you that nothing compares to breast milk, but if you have no choice then use formulas.I can go on and on, but all i can say is,
For those who have breast milk,
PLEASE DON”T GIVE UP!!!
What a women chooses to feed her baby is her right. If she chooses formula it does not make her any less of a mother. Have you ever heard the statement, “thou shall not judge”. That is great that you work 2 jobs and still pump great for you…that does not make you a better mother than the women that feeds her baby formula. Go join a La Leche League with the rest of the waco’s..
Thanks, Educated mother with proper spelling
I agree Pissed of mom. Destiny doesnt understand everyones circumstances.
To Destiny,
“There is nothing wrong with it. It’s natural. That’s why women have breasts, there are not made only for man.”
So you work 2 jobs and pump milk on the job? Who’s feeding the baby while your pumping at work? If your going huff and puff “natural”, then lets talk about the fact that the most natural thing behind the breastfeeding is the MOTHER feeding her CHILD.. So you do natural breast milk, but baby is fed unnaturally by another other than mother? By the way, What’s Dad doing while you work 2 jobs? Do you even know who Dad is? Where is baby while your working? Shouldn’t Mom be home with baby while Dad works? What’s your situation? Seem’s pretty un-natural to me! Come tell us! we all want to know! Because your so naturally wise! We would love to hear what else you have to say about nature!… Do you have a comment on human nature! We can do it too! Judging… Isn’t it natural! How about a comment on your own nature?! Why don’t we disect YOU, and judge YOU. My 110LB pre-pregnant wife had an E-C-section because we had a 10 LB baby unable to come out. A surgical C-section was required and not “natural” in order to save the baby and my wife.. If they died in labor it would have been okay because it’s “natural” ???? The hospitals give the baby formula when the mother is anemic, or low hemoglobin, or after a rough procedure, amongst over 100 more reasons. And if they didn’t the babies would starve.. I am objective being a man here, and can honestly say that I feel sad and pissed for all the mothers that had to read your BS comment..Some have a sick child due to this because they trusted the formula the hospitals use most to help supplement breast milk.. Some are probably going through their own pains over this, and your insensitive self-righteous comment was a dis-service to ANYONE who saw it. You empowered the ridiculous narrow minded who agree with you, and upset those who are reasonable and open minded. Your opinion is like an a-hole. Everyone has them, but some a-hole’s stink worse than others.
Who would think that breastfeeding a baby would cause such a fire up people’s butts. Breastmilk is better than formula period. That is a fact look it up. Doesn’t matter how the breastmilk is given to the baby it works all the same. So that means pumping or latching, breastmilk does the same job. It’s GRRREAT as the tiger would say. Try it. Don’t try it. I feel its up to the parents to decide and not anyone else but read the literature on the subject and give it a try and you will become a firm believer that God-made is better than man-made.
WOW, pissed off dad forgot to calm down before he replied and sounded like he was just ranting rather than making any kind of point. Most mothers can breastfeed their babies but for reasons of their own choose to supplement with formula or not breastfeed at all AND THAT’S THEIR CHOICE. I think most educated people agree that breastmilk is the standard that formula companies strive to replicate. I think a lot of people forget that breastfeeding has many health benefits for the mother as well. Speaking of mothers, I have to give props to Destiny for making the choice to breastfeed even though she is not a “stay at home mom”. It shows how strongly committed she is to doing what she feels is the best thing for her baby. I would never discourage a mother from being the best mom she can be simply because she has to work and provide an income for her family. The fact that she is able to step up and provide the income her family needs only reflects strength, whether she is helping her husband or a single mom. Not all of us have the luxury of being a “stay at home mom”. These days/in this economy those lucky ladies are few and far between. People can choose to breastfeed or use formula… Just like people can choose to work or let their families do without. Life is full of choices.
WHAT YOU GUYS NEED TO RELIZE YES IT IS WONDERFUL TO BRESTFEED YOUR BABY BUT SOME WOMEN DONT PRODUCE ENOUGH MILK TO SO ITS NOT THERE FAULT IF THEY HAVE TO USE SOMETHING ELSE!!
Samantha might think I’m part of the lazy woman who gave up breastfeeding. But when I was sleep deprived and had insomnia after a month without real sleep I put my baby at risk. I had to stop after almost dropping my baby in the middle of the night getting ready to feed. I was so tired I got dizzy, it was scary! The insomnia is what made it hard to continue, I didn’t want to take pills to put me to sleep so it wouldn’t pass to my baby.
Also I don’t know how all working mothers who breastfeed do it. I’m guessing all your jobs have their separate rooms to pump. I used to work at a grocery store and I couldn’t imagine them letting me pump, especially carrying around a big pump machine.
Oh yeah It NEVER took me just 5mins to pump my milk it was more like 15 add on another 15 to feed, just as much time it would of taken me to finish nursing.
Did anyone buy contaminated formula in Massachusetts? Did you purchase formula in Framingham, Sudbury, or Hudson Massachusetts? Please let me know when and where. I purchased contaminated formula from Walmart and CVS in December. The recall was in September. Lo and behold there are now signs posted in the stores warning the public of the contaminated formula. Walmart has stopped carrying the powdered formula. Perfect timing- since my newborn ingested the toxic powder and spent her early days of her life in the emergency room at Newton Wellesley hospital. Was your child seen at Newton Wellesley hospital? It is truly amazing that the doctors didn’t know about the recall and the severity of the problems including: vomiting, diarrhea, fever, low-blood pressure, cramps, difficulty breathing to name a few. I couldn’t help to notice all the variety of Similac formula and it didn’t stop there. They also have sterilized water. Apparently, Similac forgot to disclose the recall to the hospital or did they? You be the judge. Since ingesting the beetle parts and larvae my infant has suffered from severe cramping; curling her legs up to her chest in agony. She cried perfusely. Her diarrhea was constant. Her diaper rash looked like a burn. Her skin was peeling due to the acid. Each time she heard and observed me pulling the fasteners off her diaper she looked in fear anticipating the pain of her butt being touched. She cried uncontrollably when I had to put butt paste on her. Now that is a memory I will never forget. Additionally, she had blood in her stool, difficulty breathing, dehydration, didn’t want to eat, rash on her back. She cried perfusely. Does this sound familar to any other victims? I don’t know about you, but this is one hell of a way to come into this world. From my research, I am led to believe Similac knew of the contaminated formula and chose the ship the products. Similac, Walmart and CVS will be ACCOUNTABLE for all the innocent victims TORTURED by their greed and digusting disregard for human life. I want to hear from the other victims. I am interested in learning about the following: When you brought your child to the hospital what was their diagnosis? Was it acid reflux? When and where did you purchase the product in Massachusetts? When and where did you learn of the recall? What are the on-going problems with your child?
