The Open Veins of Latin America:Las Venas Abiertas De America Latina – ‘Open Veins of Latin America’ is a book written by Eduardo Galeano a professor at the University of Montevideo in Uruguay in 1971 that was given by Venezuela’s leader Hugo Chavez to President Barack Obama at the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad. “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent” which is a very controversial opinion piece that says that Europe and the United States have exploited and oppressed Latin America for the last hundred years.
The book presented to President Obama was in Spanish,it does not appear he will get the English version anytime soon.
