Who Won The World Cup 2010? Spain vs Netherlands

Who Won The World Cup 2010? Spain vs Netherlands – Spain was able to secure the first place in the 2010 World Cup thanks to their 1-0 victory over the Netherlands. The game had been stuck in a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of play, and the defenses of both teams had really stepped up to play. Each team had a number of chances to score. Spain made the most of early game lapses by the Netherlands squad, and had several great shots on goal that were ultimately stopped by the goalkeeper.
In the 62nd minute of the match, Arjen Robben took the ball away from playmaker Wesley Sneijder, and went one on one with goalkeeper Iker Casillas, but missed wide right on the shot. It was representative of the missed opportunities that the team would suffer from throughout the match.
Sergio Ramos had hit a great looking header from Xavi Hernandez’s cross, but goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg made an amazing save in the fifth minute. He saved several shots that looked as though they should have gone in. But at the 117 th minute Andrés Iniesta scored the winning goal.
To celebrate he removed his jersey and exposed his white shirt that carried a tribute to Dani Jarque, a defender who played with some of the Spanish players on youth national teams. Jarque died last August at age 26 of a heart attack.
The Netherlands best chance came when Sneijder had a 30 yard free kick bounce wildly into the hands of goalkeeper Casillas. He fell on the ball to ensure that it would not take a hop through his hands and into the goal.
While it was not the most well played, or pretty game that we have seen in the 2010 World Cup, the final between Spain and Holland lived up to expectations, despite being a low scoring affair.
