Zhu Zhu Pets Recall? Toxic & Unsafe Antimony Poisoning – Zhu Zhu pets recall is the big headline in the gadget world this weekend after a Good Guide review of the popular toy released Friday claimed that it had “dangerous contaminants.” According to Good Guide.com too much of two toxic metals (tin and antimony) were found in Zhu Zhu Pets toy. Some people are starting to wonder if a Zhu Zhu pets recall will follow this negative review.Well not yet because the company behind the toy is disputing the findings.Zhu Zhu pets manufacturer, Cepia LLC,released the following statement:
“We are disputing the findings of Good Guide and we are 100 percent confident that Mr. Squiggles, and all other Zhu Zhu Toys, are safe and compliant with all U.S. and European standards for consumer health and safety in toys.”
Dara O’Rourke an associate professor of environmental science at U.C.-Berkeley, and co-founder of goodguide.com said the toxic metals could be hazardous to human health.
That’s all we have for now on a potential zhu zhu pets recall.
The Good Guide’s results are based upon XRF testing, which tests for total antimony. The standard for children’s toys – effective for products manufactured after 2/10/09, is for soluble antimony, and applies to paints and surface coatings. So, the Good Guide’s results are comparing apples to oranges. And I’m an advocate for children’s health AND test toys using an XRF analyzer.
Hmmmm! Sounds like someone using the “hot” Christmas toy as a means of marketing themselves. Rather slimy approach.
